Coffee is among the popular hot beverages in the world. Approximately 2.25 billion cups per day are consumed all over the world. About 83 percent of grown-ups in the United States drink coffee at an average of three cups a day per person.

Coffee agriculture and farming nowadays use modern techniques or models to produce the best quality of coffee and give its investors good returns of investment and profit. We can teach you about the development of coffee agriculture and farming. Here, you will also be familiar with the different investment types.

Traditional coffee farming and new practices

Coffee farmers and investors develop some techniques to make coffee farming more productive and profitable. Coffee agriculture and farming are now developing; many are enticed to venture into the coffee business as it becomes a profitable investment.

Traditionally, coffee trees are planted in the forest. Before planting coffee, all the trees are cut down or pull out. Farmers burn everything to ensure that all the trees are removed. This process made the soil bare and without protection from the rain and sun. The ground is less fertile because the humus was destroyed, which resulted in unwell coffee trees, thereby producing a small number of berries. Also, coffee trees are planted at an uneven distance between them.

Harvest time

Finally, our farm is bearing the fruits of years of disciplined effort: Geisha Gold Coffee had its first test harvest of bright, deep red coffee cherries!  This stage of the farm is very important, as the harvest allows to fine-tune the whole process and perfect the art of picking only the best possible fruit to create a balanced cup of coffee.

Congratulations to our team for their dedication and hard work!

The Perfect Location

The Perfect Location

One of the main challenges we encountered when starting the project was finding a perfect location so the coffee trees would thrive. It is known that Geisha trees do better at high altitudes combined with a very specific combination of soil and weather.

We found the prefect spot in the Southwestern slopes of the Baru Volcano, in the area where the town on Volcan meets the Northern area of Boqueron District.

The farm is neighbour to the Baru Volcano National Park, part of the larger La Amistad International Park, a protected area that spans from Eastern Costa Rica to Western Panama. This privileged location of the farm ensures that the water supplies and environment of the area is properly protected from human intervention.

The Geisha Gold project begins

Juan Manuel Delgado, one of the major stakeholders in the Geisha Gold project, shows his vision to representatives of local financial institutions.

Early steps of our water system, which is based in moving fresh water by gravity from a nearby spring.

Geisha Gold is a project that has taken years to come to fruition. We spent a few years deciding the ideal location, varietals, and the business model we needed to make this dream happen.

By the middle of 2015 we had a rough idea as to where to go. Our main challenge was to prefect our processes from an operational perspective. In that regard, we received tons of advise and help from leading experts in the local coffee industry. On the other hand, we wanted to create a model of sustainability in a social level.

Along the way, some plans we have kept the same, some others we have changed along the way. One thing that have not changed is our determination to create a sustainable business model that is fair and successful for our workers, the environment, ourselves, the entire coffee industry in Panama, and of course, our commitment to provide exceptional value to our customers.
